Info / Frequently Asked Questions

Practice is Voluntary

But, we think it is important!

Sportsmanship

Sportsmanship is expected by EVERYONE at tournaments and practices. If we experience a problem with your child’s behavior at practice they will be asked to leave. This rule applies to parents as well.

Respect

Please be respectful to the club coaches when they are instructing the wrestlers during practice. Children can be distracted very easily without extra noise from parents or siblings during this time.

Shoes

Please have your child wear tennis shoes to practice and change into wrestling shoes at practice. DO NOT WEAR WRESTLING SHOES OUTSIDE. MORE IMPORTANTLY, NO STREET SHOES ON THE WRESTLING MATS! If you do not posses wrestling shoes there is some available for checkout.

Shower

It is important that your child shower after each practice to reduce the risk of ringworm. Ringworm is a skin fungal infection, no more than athlete’s foot. The mats are cleaned daily, but it can still occur. If you are not sure about a skin infection ask a coach.

BHS Facility

Our club is allowed to use Brookings High School facilities at no cost. We need to RESPECT this privilege and abide by any requests made by BHS officials/staff, such as using a particular entrance on nights off there are other events going on at the school. The WEIGHT ROOM and CHEELRLEADERS HALLWAY is OFF LIMITS.

Picture Night

To Be Announced. It will be held sometime in the beginning of January. Please have your child wear their red singlet.

Records

Record wins, losses, pins, etc. on the clipboard the following week if your child wrestled over the weekend. We hand out decorated pins during Thursday practice to all wrestlers who registered a pin the previous week. Please, only parents should fill out the record sheet.

Tournaments

Tournaments are a fantastic way for your child to measure how well they are doing, build confidence, have fun, and earn recognition. Please have your wrestler wear our club singlets at tournaments. BWA will sponsor two tournaments a month. Tournaments will be chosen by the BWA committee. Tournaments sponsors will be posted one month in advance on this website. Click to view our resources page that has links to other tournament sites. Links to more tournaments.

District/Region/State Tournaments

Districts are in Flandreau (date TBA), Regions at Madison (date TBA), State at Aberdeen (date TBA.) BWA pays for all members entry fees for districts, regions, and state.

Pizza Party!!!!

This concludes our wrestling season. Awards will be presented at this time. Singlets MUST be turned in at that time if they have not already been done so.
